Quantum Thoughts for Gardeners: February 2011

When February arrives we feel the depth of winter in our soul.  There are many days of cold and snow.  New complications in our lives arrive in the guise of treacherous driving conditions and slippery sidewalks.  The days are getting lighter and we are antsy for spring.  Look at the popularity of Punxsutawney Phil over the last 121 years.  Will spring be coming soon?  Please? The Groundhog Day phenomenon arises from an ancient German superstition that if a hibernating animal casts its shadow on Imbolc (Feb. 2) there will be an early spring.  We have been “waiting for spring” for as long as there has been life on the earth.

Well, spring is coming but now in February we should take time to really observe the life and beauty that surrounds us now.  Our families snuggled around the fire.  The comfort in making the same stew your mother did on cold winter nights, when you were a kid.  Look out your window into your garden and you will notice the holly, the evergreen, and the birds.  The holly adds color to the grey, white, and black of the February day.  The splash of red of the berries symbolizes good will and everlasting life.  The evergreen reminds us again that life is forever, on-going, never ending.  The birds are a reminder of the work that continually needs to be done in life.  During February, they are mainly busy in finding food and keeping the nest warm.  In our lives, we have laundry and dishes to be done.  These tasks are blessings!  Yes, they really are!  Laundry and dishes prove to us that we have clothes to keep us warm, and the food to feed us.  These sometimes tedious tasks are ongoing, never ending, and also welcome.  Each of these gifts (holly, evergreen and bird) is a reminder of the fact that we are all One.  The Holly, The Evergreen, The Bird and You are all working towards the same goal… to live a full life now and to be prepared for the awakening that spring brings.

Quantum Physics tells us that we are all energy.  Our energy is connected to all of the energy in the Universe.  Since we are all connected, our energy affects the energy of those around us.  Not only in our homes and with the ones we love, but also in our communities.  February is a slog through the end of winter.  If we try to find the connections to life and beauty in February and fill up our cups with the joy of what we see… we can pass this on to the next person.  Maybe just one smile offered to a complete stranger could make their day, and change the energy they share.

February is also a good time to talk about pathways.  In the garden, all the plants are dead or dormant.  It is very easy to see the path. There is nothing to distract your eye from the way through the garden.  The path is clearly shown.  If you took my advice in January, put up a 3 x 5 card with your intention on it, and focused on it daily, you should be seeing the results by now.  These results may be in the form of a new insight into your situation, a change of attitude (your thoughts changed about the problem) or the success of changing your reality (problem gone, done, over).  January was for planning (the intention) and February is for finding the path.  Your world is affected by your thoughts.  We are fully capable of changing our thoughts and thus changing our reality.  Put up a 3 x 5 card with your new intention on it.  Think of the path now, where is it leading you?

It’s also good to snuggle in bed on the cold dark nights of February and read.  I have a recommendation for you all:  “The Field” by Lynne McTaggert (2008 HarperCollins).  This book was the scientific confirmation of those things I knew only by faith before.

Seasons and cycles are a part of life.  Our energies ebb and flow.  Everything is an energy exchange.  Find the good energy that the February garden offers, and help others by gratefully offering up that energy to them.  Buy a coffee for the lady behind you at Starbucks today.  Smile at a stranger.  Listen when someone wants to talk.  Make your day by sharing.

Meditations:

When the healthy nature of man acts as a whole,
when he feels himself to be in the world as in a great, beautiful, noble, and valued whole,
when harmonious ease affords him a pure and free delight,
then the universe, if it could experience itself, would exult, as having attained its goal,
and admire the climax of its own becoming and essence.
 -Goethe

What we plant in the soil of contemplation, we shall reap in the harvest of action.
 -Meister Eckhart

Kind words do not cost much. They never blister the tongue or lips. Though they do not cost much, they accomplish much. They make other people good-natured. They also produce their own image in other people's souls.

Quantum Experience on a Saturday Morning

It is said in the field of Quantum Physics that things act differently when you observe them.  Another fact is that matter is not solid, it is tiny, tiny particles flying around with a lot of space in between.  When we sit in a chair, we don’t actually ever touch the chair.  The force of the atoms in our bottom and the force of the atoms in the chair keep us from actually touching anything!

So what is reality?  What we “observe”?  What we “experience”?

Ramtha says that Jesus could have walked on water, literally, by changing the way the atoms in his body interacted with the water.  This is backed up by physics work all over the world.  So if we are able to change the way our atoms work, we could fly or walk through walls or walk through anything!

One night last fall we had a pretty severe thunderstorm pass through our area.  The majority of the storm hit the other side of the lake and all we got was a bit of rain and some high winds.  Saturday morning, as usual, I walked out my front door to a beautiful blue sky, no wind, no humidity, just a gorgeous day!  I went out to pick up my paper from the driveway (no more than 25 feet from the door) as I do every morning.

After picking up the paper and looking up at the sky, I walked back to the front door and blocking my way was a very large branch from a tree.

Now the way my house is set up there is a balcony over the front door and there was, remember, no wind.  There was also no people or animals anywhere around at the moment.  I could NOT get back into my house without removing this tree branch.  I could not step over or around it.  The top came up to my knees and it was about four feet wide (with many, many leaves on it).

I was, to put it mildly, shocked to find it there.  Where was it when I came out?  How did it get there?  I did not observe it in any way before I came out.  Did I walk through it?  Was it vibrating on a different level than I was at the time and we did not coexist in the same universe at the time?  How is this possible?

I’ve spent the last few months contemplating this… I can’t even identify the tree so far.  I know WHICH tree it came from, but for all my searching online, not one description fits this tree exactly.  It is either a member of the Elm or Ash family.  The problem is... well I'll get to that later.

The branch was also covered in “air plants”.  There were 54 air plants.  Now just for the heck of it I counted them… and in numerology, my “life path” is a nine.  Does this mean anything?  How is this connected to the fact that the branch just “appeared” at my doorstep?

These are the questions I am pondering at this moment.  I could use any help at figuring this out I could get.

I know that this specific area was a sacred place to the Native Americans who lived here before we came… did that have anything to do with it?   Does the fact that there is a labyrinth on the property have anything to do with it?

The one thing I know for sure is that I did not imagine this.  There is NO logical explanation to this occurrence.  There is no way I could have walked out of my house and not "noticed" the branch.  So here is the kicker... about two weeks after this happened, the branch "disappeared".  I have the above picture of it so I know it wasn't a dream.  After I took the picture, I hung the branch under the deck so I could take it to the local arborist and find out what kind of tree it was.  We didn't have any storms, and it was there everyday (I could see it from the deck).  One morning it was gone.  I live on three acres and I looked all over the yard and could not find the thing.  It was just gone as mysteriously as it appeared.

Thank you for keeping an open mind about this experience.  I believe something significant has happened to me and I am just trying to be open to what that is.  Please let me know if you have any thoughts or ideas.

Stay “in tune” to the world and wonderful things happen!

Quantum Thoughts for Gardeners: January 2011

The New Year begins and we now have time to take stock of our garden plans as well as our plans for our lives.  During the stillness of the post holiday season, it is a good time to look at all we have accomplished in the previous year as well as plan out our goals for the upcoming year.

I’ve never been one for New Year’s Resolutions, per se, but setting out a plan, both for the garden and for life, is very important if you want your garden and your life to grow in beauty.

First, the garden…  What grew well last year?  What didn’t?  How do you want to change or add to the plan that you already have?  Do you have a plan?  If not, now is the time to start thinking about it.  Many gardening/seed catalogues are available and what could be better than spending a long evening planning out the beauty of the new life to arrive after the last of winter has passed us by.

Now to the soul… What worked well for you last year?  What didn’t?  How do you want to change the plan of your life?  Do you have a plan?  If not, now is the time to start thinking about it!  Unfortunately there are no catalogues out there that allow you to pick out which life you want, but there are some places to start.

Quantum physics tells us that things change under observation.  Studies have shown that “intent” is everything.  If you intend to be sad, you will.  If you intend to be a victim, you will.  If you intend to be poor, you will.  Conversely, if you intend to be happy, you will.  If you intend to get a better job, you will.  If you intend to mend relationships, you will.  The key is to find a way to make your intent reality.

I want you to start off with an exercise this week.  Write down on a 3x5 card one thing that you want to CHANGE about your life.  Put this card next to your alarm clock.  When you go to bed at night, I want you to read the card (out loud or silently) three times before you turn the light off and again three times first thing in the morning.  An example could be a card that reads: “I want to be more forgiving” or “I want to find a new job”.  Make sure that the statement on the card is a POSITIVE statement.  You may not see a change right away, but I guarantee you that within a couple of weeks, your attitude to the situation will change and you will be able to make the change you want.  You will have, literally, “changed your mind” about the situation and will draw the job or the ability to forgive to you.  By this practice daily, you will physically rewire your brain and you will then be open to the opportunities that arise.

Meditations for the week:

Christian Wisdom:  “All things must come to the soul from its roots, from where it is planted” ~ Saint Teresa of Avila

Hebrew Wisdom: Rabbi Simon said, "There is no plant without an angel in Heaven tending it and telling it, 'Grow!'" (Genesis Rabbah 10:7, Talmud).
